Good Life News presented it's 1st Annual Good Life Author's Book Fair at the Phoenix Airport Hilton in Phoenix, Arizona on Saturday, August 19, 2006. Attendees were greeted by friendly helpful staff, excellent signage, and a wonderful venue. For the entry cost of $10, you would expect stale bagels and warm coffee. That was not the case. On arriving we were met with a buffet breakfast of fresh fruit, coffee cakes, fresh muffins, fresh bagels, and hot fresh coffee.
First on the morning's agenda was the "How To Write Your Book" workshop presented by Joy Malumphy, Editor of the Good Life News. Her hour long presentation was packed full of great information that any beginning writer could take with them and put to immediate use. She was very adept at fielding some tough questions and working them into her presentation seamlessly.
Next came the "How To Sell Your Book" workshop presented by Jerry Simmons, Consultant & former VP of Marketing for Time-Warner Books. This was the workshop not to be missed. His explanations of the inner workings of huge publishing houses and small presses completely changed my plans for my own writing projects. The information and his delivery was a wake up call for any beginning writer.
At lunch time, the buffet consisting of steak kabobs, chicken fillets, Italian meatballs, exotic cheeses, and mini quiches was a mouth-watering treat. Again you would have expected to pay more than $10 to attend this fair judging by the quality of the food.
The main hall was filled with a nice array of authors with their newest releases and merchants that service the writing community. All were courteous and went above and beyond to help you find your way with your own writing projects; without being pushy selling their own books. While visiting individual tables, they asked you questions about your own writing with true concern and caring. They then referred you to other tables containing services that could help you in reaching your goals. This was the most successful and useful networking session I have ever been a part of. Also, the author readings showed extreme talent and were very enjoyable.
Anyone who did not attend this event missed out on extremely valuable and helpful information. I left anticipating the next one. Kudos to Good Life News for a very well planned and extremely enjoyable event. Kudos also to the Phoenix Airport Hilton for providing a very high class venue. You both have done Phoenix and yourselves proud.
