left Arizona State Braille & Talking Book Library Needs You!
The Arizona State Braille & Talking Book Library is in serious need of volunteers to test and repair talking book machines returned by patrons in our repair centers. No experience is required. We will train you! If you have a kind heart, want to meet new friends and have fun learning a new skill, contact Jeanie Pawlowski at 602-255-5578 or complete our Volunteer Information Request.

left A Personal Welcome
Hello and welcome to my official web site. Here fans can keep in touch, pick up the latest news of coming releases, view tour schedules and find writer's conferences, book fairs and book signing parties that I will be attending.

Beginning authors will find a wealth of information here to help sharpen their skills and move them forward in the quest of getting published. In the Writer's Toolbox menu, you will find a link to search the copyright database, the Research Resources section which includes links to guides such as forensics, police procedures, and much much more.

I have also reproduced some of the greatest articles by Moira Allen. Her real-world articles about the business of writing are fantastic and I could not have survived my initial contact with the publishing world without them. Check them out in the Article Library or her complete library at Writing-World.com.

Okay... okay... time for a proud shameless plug. Oh stop it... fathers are allowed. Check out my daughter Melinda and her band Thought Division. They have a unique sound and their music is fantastic. Visit their site, have a listen and get their new CD!

I enjoy receiving e-mail from fans as well as from beginning authors and I try to answer them all personally. However, please keep in mind that with the amount of e-mail I receive, it takes a bit of time to answer them all. So please be patient.

I look forward to hearing from each and every one of you and remember... read to write and write to be read!

Best wishes,

After spending twenty years as a Network Engineer and freelance Web Designer, I decided to make a life change and pursue my first love... writing. No matter how hard I try though, I just can't seem to leave the geek behind.

Understanding Contracts

In a recent survey of magazines, I asked a relatively simple question: "Do you offer a formal contract?" A surprising number said "no." Even more surprising, however, was the number who then added something like, "we write a letter detailing our terms" or "we negotiate a separate agreement with each author."

Selling International Rights

by Moira Allen

One of the primary benefits of exploring international markets is the ability to resell the same article to more than one publication. To do this effectively, however, you need to know what rights to offer -- and what rights to retain at all costs.
